A workshop to create a street band for the Wye Valley, a big bold band for all players of wind, brass and percussion.
Street Bands are one of the musical wonders of the world, the sound of celebration from Monmouth to Mumbai, Columbia to Coleford and Houston to Hereford. We will be playing grooves from New Orleans and around the world and music inspired by own traditions.
Street music is excellent for building musical confidence, playing together and developing performance skills.
There will be a mixture of learning by ear and reading music – whatever suits people best.
The workshop will be led by veteran street musician Tim Hill and assisted by Jo Meikle.
Tim leads the WVRF ‘house band’ The Wodwose and helps run The Sound of the Streets, a charity promoting street bands, creating festivals and education projects and inspiring and supporting children and young people to make music.
Tim has started many street bands around the country and his band Tongues of Fire is one of the UK’s leading street bands. Find out more here.
Jo Meikle is a young Bristol based drummer and graduate of the jazz course at Leeds School of Music. He plays in a wide rage of jazz, folk and pop settings and has played in many WVRFs.
