The Underneath
Free performance at We Weave The Woods, Fri 10 May & Sat 11 May, Beechenhurst, Speech House Rd, Coleford GL16 7EJ
The Underneath is a fungi-inspired multimedia installation made by Youth Landscapers Collective, a youth arts collective based in the National Forest in Leicestershire.
Combining hand-drawn and digital animation by YLC and youth groups from the heart of the forest, it explores the hidden living networks that connect the forest beneath our feet and invites you to see things from a different perspective.
They worked with artist Claire Davies to produce our film and The Underneath first premiered in 2022 at Timber Festival.
Fungi, plants and trees work in close partnership and just like them, Youth Landscapers Collective make projects collaboratively with artists, technicians, local young people, community groups and the forest itself.
They are based in the former mining village of Moira and use creativity to explore and tell historical and natural stories from their part of the National Forest.
This collaboration has been made possible with funding from The National Forest Company and Near Now.
