    Sing with the Birds

Part of the Sound Forest music activities for Merry Monmouth Day on Saturday 4 May, 12pm-5pm, Drybridge Park, Monmouth, HP25 5AS

Come and sing with the birds in the these FREE family-friendly drop-in workshop sessions throughout the afternoon.

Flautist and composer Fiona Taylor will be experimenting with May Day traditions, folk law and the birds in the trees. Her abiding passion for birdsong will influence workshops in the woodland area, and you will be invited to recreate the songs and sounds of local woodland and garden birds through an assortment of wind instruments (whistles, flutes and recorders), leading to a group improvisation.

Fiona began work as a classical flute player, performing in the London Symphony Orchestra and Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and in West End shows.

Her work as a Music Therapist led her into exploring the emotional effects of music, especially through improvisation. Currently working as a composer, her music is inspired by the natural world, and is played on BBC TV programmes such as Countryfile, Gardeners’ World and Our Changing Planet.

Local projects include ‘Love Letter to the Wye’, a series of songs she wrote drawing inspiration from the beauty and plight of the River Wye.

Fiona Taylor’s music has been used in BBC award-nominated radio documentaries, wildlife documentaries, and film

She blogs about birdsong in music.
