Birthday on the Bridge

Come eat, come play, come meet friends old and new and celebrate 10 years of the Wye Valley River Festival.

You are warmly invited to join us on the opening evening of the Wye Valley River Festival on Monnow Bridge.

There will be singing, performance, music and a community feast over the Monnow, featuring our festival band The Wodwose, our theatre ensemble The Rumblers, and festival regular the ‘avant bard’ Rhys Trimble.

Please bring food to share, buy from our local producers on site or from takeaways on the high street.

Wear your finest party hat or come and make one prior to the event at our FREE hands-on drop-in hat-making workshop.

We look forward to meeting you there!

General and Access Information

  • This is a relaxed, free, family-friendly event and you can arrive and leave when you like
  • There is no specific performance time, however there will be live musicians and street performers entertaining you throughout. Their performance will not be amplified. They may talk to you, but they will go away if you don’t want to talk to them!
  • We will provide tables and chairs on the bridge – just sit in the ones you like the look of.
  • The bridge is closed to traffic and wheelchair accessible, although there is a slight slope
  • There are public toilets next to the bridge, including a disabled toilet, that will be open for us to use
  • Bring your own food and drink, or buy from one of our street vendors, which include sweet and savoury options, gluten free and vegetarian/vegan, or a local business. As this is a public street we will not be providing any alcohol
  • We will have a tent in case of bad weather but this is an outdoor event so do dress appropriately for spring in Wales!
  • We will have a photographer taking photos of the event for us. If you do not want to be in any photos, please let us know when you arrive.
